My Story
I got my first glance of padel when we visited Catalunya in the autumn of 2008. It wasn’t until we moved to the Alpujarra valley in 2015 that I got the opportunity to step onto a padel court for the first time.
I played padel for 2 hours a week for six months before a soleus injury forced me to stop. It was my own fault for wearing a pair of worn-out running sneakers on a slightly damp court.
Once I recovered I got back into trail running as a way to strengthen the calf/Achilles area of my legs. That lead to the creation of our other blog, Trail Run Planet.
A chance discovery of a padel tournament on television inspired me to get back into the game. This time I decided to see how good I could get at padel. I realized that for me to improve I would need to learn a lot about how to play the game.
Because of the lack of English language content on the sport of padel, I created World Padel Insider to bring you along on my journey of learning to be a better padel player. That way you can learn from my mistakes so you don’t need to make them too.
I live in the Alpujarra valley, in the Spanish Sierra Nevada mountains. It is an area made famous by the Chris Stewart book Driving Over Lemons and by Gerald Brenan before him with the book South Of Granada.
Our village has a municipal padel court where I get together with a group of locals for a friendly game each week.
The great part about living in the mountains is being able to be out in nature on a just about daily basis. Hiking, mountain biking, trail running, and rock climbing are all right here on our doorstep.
I have been sporty for most of my life and there is hardly a sport that I have not tried at least once.
My partner and I moved to Spain in 2013. The process of adapting to a new country has been challenging to put it mildly.
In 2014 I started a YouTube channel that has grown to over 1500 videos since then. I got into a bit of blogging in the same year on the old Blogger platform.
In 2015 I wrote a 200-page book on marathon running and increased my YouTube publishing schedule to 10 videos a week. That was when we moved out of the big city to the mountain village where we are now.
The peace and quiet of country living have enabled me to do a lot more writing.
That’s me!
